The July 6th decline in sentiment in Asian
Ethylene markets was due to decreases in crude oil and naphtha. The buying indicators were lower due to low
derivative demand and shrinking margins. Sellers
were still under pressure due to limited buyers and ample supply in the second
half of July. Deals were, therefore, less successful. The outlook
for the near term was grim. Market participants pointed out a weak global
economy, which reduced spending and led to lower operating rates at finished
good facilities. Market sources stated that this would continue
to impact ethylene demand in the near term as key derivatives like polyethylene
and mono ethylene glycol are dependent on finished goods demand for recovery. The
