On March 31, the European
styrene markets surged as there was talk about further production problems on
the continent. In line with an April trade, the five- to
30-day forward delivery laycan increased $250-260/mt to $2,150-2,200/mt FOB AR. This was in response to trading in a $2,000-2,050/mt range
that was heard late on March 30. Although
bids fell following the March 31 trade, no offers for April loading were made. The backwardation was in effect from March 31 to June. A
