Asian Recycled PET: Prices stable amid thin trade / R-PET resin recyclers hit by US tariff / Poor recycling adoption in Asia

Asian recycled polyethylene terephthalate prices stable week over week at $810/mt FOB Southeast Asia in the week to Sept. 24 amid thin trade. The Asian R-PET market has been thrown into disarray after the US unexpectedly added R-PET resin to its latest round of tariffs last week. Asian producers had previously been exempted from the measure. Several Asian participants were continuing to digest the US announcement that imports of PET and recycled PET will now be subject to full tariffs, halting trading activity. Looking at the global industry, traders said they see different levels of maturity across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
