Sources said that low water levels at the
Rhine continue to disrupt the supply chain of German steam crackers, and in
turn, the demand for naphtha. According to
WSV, the Rhine at Kaub's key choke-point fell to 70cm, a decrease of 1 cm. It
is expected to fall to 65cm by July 22. Barges must
short-load when water levels fall below 100 cm at Kaub. This can lead to
increased costs and a restriction on the amount of product that can be
transported. Such a limit on transportation might cause an
excess of naphtha in parts of Europe, especially in the
Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub, while crackers in Germany will face the
opposite scenario, according to sources. One source
