Asia recycled PE: Prices stable on thin Trade / Demand is low due to lower commitments / Inconsistent supply of R-PET Bales

The price of Asian recycled polyethylene Terephthalate was stable during the week ending April 30, according to discussions. FOB Southeast Asia clear R-PET flakes were stable at $890/mt week on week. Sources said that demand has been low due to brand owners reducing their commitments for higher recycled content PET bottles by 2024 despite an increase in RPE prices. The end-users also expected a fall in prices to match the declines of the premium grades. They were therefore not in a rush to purchase. Participants on the market also pointed out that, in the absence of sanctions for non-compliance, the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Standards were not enforced, which further complicated the dynamics of the market.
