Asia Recycled LDPE: Stable amid thin trade / Traders investigate biopolymers as alternative / Low quantity of scrap to be recycled

The Asian recycled low density polyethylene market was stable in the week to July 2 amid thin trading activity. The market remained quiet due to weak demand and volatility in the prime markets, sources said. The low quantity of scrap to be recycled continued to be an issue, sources added. Recycled global LDPE was expected to account for around 5% of the total demand for prime polymers, according to analysts, with little to no growth due to high prices required for GRS certifications and the specific conditions to meet brand owners' expectations, sources said. Some traders were investigating biopolymers as an alternative to mechanically recycled polymers, which were difficult to collect in good quantities, be cleaned and sorted sufficiently to be recycled.
