In the week ending June 30, trading was slow
in Asian EDC and VCM markets. This is because procurement activities were
slowed down by weak downstream PVC sentiment. Sellers said that there were few inquiries as
Chinese buyers expressed concern about falling prices and low demand. PVC prices
in China are at their lowest level since April 2020, when demand was severely
affected by pandemic-driven lockdowns. Prices are
40% lower now than they were at the peak of $1.750-2.500/mt in October 2021. On the
Chinese domestic market, ethylene-based PVC dropped Yuan 500-550/mt from the
week to Yuan 7,500-7,600/mt on June 29. Yuan 500-550/mt
was also assessed for carbide-based PVC, which was Yuan 7,300-7,400/mt at Yuan
