- Asian PVC Prices Fall Further- US July Housing Starts down 9.6% on Month



Spot export polyvinylchloride prices in the
United States were unchanged at $790-$800/mt FAS Houston on Aug. 17. This was
despite falling Asian PVC prices and soft domestic demand. Freight rates were also at
record highs. This made Asian volumes more competitive and US producers had to
sharply lower prices in order to sell to export markets. Due to logistical problems that have hampered exports for
months, USPVC buyers are less inclined to buy, leaving many packaging
warehouses full. Multiple market sources
confirmed that domestic PVC prices fell by 5 cents per pound in July due to the
slowing of USPVC exports. The CFR China
