The week saw an improvement in sentiments
in Asian ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride monomer markets, despite higher
downstream polyvinylchloride (PVC), prices in domestic Chinese markets. Participants reported an increase in buying
interest but noted that buying signals were lower than they expected due to
the low prices of PVC. According to market sources, a major Northeast
Asian producer has announced a sell tender for EDC. The results will be
announced on Aug. 11. Market sources reported that EDC supply was
greater due to an increase in deep and sea arrivals. The EDC markets could be further
pressured by the lackluster demand and cut operating rates at VCM plants in
Asia. The lower prices were considered reasonable
