The sentiment in the Asian
vinyl chloride monomer and ethylene dichloride markets was bearish. Most participants
pointed to falls in downstream polyvinyl chloride markets. Although a major Northeast Asian producer
reduced August-loading PVC shipment offers by $190-$230/mt, several market
sources indicated that the decrease was less than anticipated, which led to
slow sales. Buyers were concerned about PVC demand due to
the increased-than-expected offerings and increasing inventories. This affected
their buying appetite for EDC/VCM. According to market sources, China's
domestic PVC market had seen a drop in demand due to weak infrastructure and
property sectors. This had caused some projects to be delayed. The
