Asian polystyrene market prices dropped
$30-35/mt last week due to lower upstream Styrene Monomer prices and a lack of
demand from the final product sectors. Lower upstream SM prices have lowered feedstock
costs for PS producers. The weak demand for PS material
continued, which led to spot discussions in the domestic and international
markets. A producer stated that the PS material they are
selling still has high feedstock costs. The absence of demand is the main
problem due to global inflation. Market participants stated that PS
producers are lowering their operating rates in order to reduce high-cost
inventory levels as well as price fluctuations, due to the bearish sentiment in
