Thin activity with most of Asian markets off on holidays -  ABS/PS margins face continuous pressure Asian
polystyrene flat on the week amid thin trading during Lunar New Year
festivities in the region. A High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) producer in the
Southeast Asis region mentioned that “offers should be above $1350mt for HIPS”,
and even then, this level is “not so enough reported that producers of PS and
ABS, downstream of styrene monomer (SM), faced pressures on margins, as
customers were not willing to pay higher prices despite higher SM markets.
However, the producer mentioned that this likely is not sustainable. “Gradually
when all suppliers increase their prices, customers will have to accept,”
referencing that customers are asking for prices below profitable levels....
