Asian Propylene prices: stable or weaker in the past week / Tepid demand from SEA and China hinders trade discussions / Domestic China Prices Stable over Day

In the week ending May 9, Asian propylene was either stable or slightly lower. Production plants are facing increasing inventory pressure because of slow shipments. Propylene supplies remain plentiful. Sources said that some producers have become more willing to give discounts in order to reduce stock levels. On the demand-side, weak prices and a cautious attitude have limited downstream purchasing interest, reinforcing an overall stagnant market. China's weekly operating rate for propylene dropped to 72.5% on May 8 from 73.38% a week earlier, according to sources. A trader stated, "It is still quiet but I heard that a deal was [underway] but am not sure whether or not it is completed." Another trader stated that the price was steady today.
