Propylene CFR China was down $5/mt to $825/mt on the 21st of March. Participants on the market said that spot demand for propylene was also slow, due to low margins in polypropylene, which is the main downstream component of propylene. A company source revealed that Taiwan's CPC closed its residue fluid catalytic cracked in Dalian, Taiwan, on March 17, after it encountered problems. Sources on the market said that short-covering activity was observed in Taiwan after the emergency shutdown. Some spot deals were heard at $840-845/mt CFR Taiwan - $10/mt more than the previous week. Sources said that the shutdown would last for at least two weeks. They did not specify the type of repairs.
