Spot prices for virgin polyethylene
terephthalate in Northwest Europe rose in the week to July 27 despite market
fundamentals remaining unchanged. Spot prices
in the UK remained stable, however. According to
sources, many consumers will be closing down for the summer holidays in the
coming weeks. A producer stated that no one would want to
purchase material if the plant is closed for most of August. Some
producers claim that while downstream demand for PET products was strong
despite high temperatures in Europe and holiday periods, the buying appetite
has slowed down for the resin. Some PET resin buyers are known to be
reducing their inventories, rather than buying the material at the current price. Despite
lower feedstock costs, European producers were still under pressure...
