Sources said that the Northwest European
naphtha market was under severe pressure on August 4. "There is a lot of
supply of light and paraffinic naphthas [in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub] that cannot
move to inland petchem sites because of the Rhine water levels," one
market source said. The source stated that
there was not much demand from Asia to remove excess ARA or Med cargoes in this
way, even though there is widespread of East/West. Asia had "terrible petchem breaking margins... Lower
crack run rates and quite the amount of maintenance coming up." A source stated that the market lacks heavy naphtha to
upgrade into gasoline pool reformate. According
