Prices seen declining amid lower global pricing / January-Oct US caustic soap exports up 5% year over year: ITC

Based on stable pricing indicators, US spot export caustic soda prices remained unchanged week-on–week Dec. 14. They were $725-735/dmt FOB USG. According to a market source, November marked the first month since February that US customers could buy caustic soda volume without any allocations. Sources said that this means all manufacturers can maintain a high production rate while still having enough volume to supply caustic soda. The source also stated that US caustic soda exports prices had fallen due to international buyers being able to purchase cheaper volumes from Asia. Asian caustic soda prices were lower week-on–week Dec. 14, at $480/dmt FOB Northeast Asia (down $80/dmt) and $580/dmt CFR Southeast Asia (down $90/dmt). The lower alumina prices and large inventories in China caused a bearish sentiment in Asia. Ex-works China's alumina price fell 10.5% to $463.29/mt...
