- Prices rise because of downstream demand- USITC: Benzene imports down less than 1%
in a year

US
Gulf Coast benzene prices rose sharply during the week ending Nov. 11th, rising
19 cents per day and 36 cents over the week. Sources said that prices have
risen this week due to increased demand for cumene and downstream ethylbenzene. This
has also led to a steepening of backwardation in the forward curve, as strong
demand for prompt material continues. The US International Trade
Commission data for November showed that benzene imports from January through
September fell 0.8% compared to the previous year. The ITC data showed
that benzene imports for January through September were 1.237 million mt. This
is slightly less than the 1.247 millions mt imported during the same period in
2021.
