Premiums for floating offers decreased in CFR China / Contango and backwardation mixed first quarter

Even with a second rise in oil prices this week, there was still softer
trade activity in the Asian benzene markets on Dec. 16. February ICE
Brent crude futures rose $1.29/barrel on the day to $74.57/b at 0830 GMT Dec.
16. This week's contract reached $75.68/b, the highest level since Dec. 13. On Dec. 16, trade
sentiments changed to a more cautious tone, as participants took a more
cautious approach due to the near-term surplus in benzene. Participants noted weakness in para xylene and adjacent
markets. FOB Korea benzene marker climbed
$6/mt to $921/mt on Dec. 16. The floating
physical offers of January arrival CFR China base cargoes marked off-January
average premiums had dropped to plus $32/mt, from plus $35/mt earlier this
month. CFR China was valued at $927.50/mt,
