European spot MTBE flat prices rose May 17,
following gasoline gains despite lower demand. The European MTBE FOB-ARA flat price was $977.75-997.85/mt.
This is up $23.25-28.50/mt from the previous day. The premium
on the June gasoline swap was stable at $183.75/mt. There were no changes
during the Market on Close process. The spread
between front-month gasoline and naphtha increased to $202/mt on May 17; this
is an increase of $10/mt from day to day. This shows favorable blending margins. A trader said
that "blending at the moment is very small" because it's hard to
gauge demand. A trader stated that there were no Eastern
cargoes heading towards Europe. He also said that certain players had excess
volumes of MTBE...
