Market sources reported that South Asian polypropylene price rose slightly during the week ending May 21 due to higher freight rates and increased trading activity in India. India is the largest South Asian market by volume traded. Positive developments in tariffs between China and the US have led to an increase in demand for containers and vessels, especially from China. Sources in the market expect that this rise will soon affect other routes around the world. The rise in freight costs on this route has led to a $20/mt increase in offers for homopolymers coming from China. Deal activity on the import market is subdued, as buyers wait for clarity regarding the Indian government's decision to implement the Quality Control Order.
