Asian MTBE prices ease as interest in buying dwindles / Arbitrage window appears closed / Spot offers prices to Fall

Asian MTBE FOB Singapore is down $1.77/mt from the previous day to $660.52/mt on June 27. This represents a cash difference of $2.44/b compared to for FOB Singapore 92 RON fuel Mean Singapore Strip (from 15-40 days). Sources said that although crude oil prices increased on June 27, they failed to support spot MTBE. A trader from Singapore stated that an arbitrage window open between Asia and the West had supported regional cargoes in the last few weeks. However, this window is now closed. The trader believes that this could force some producers to reduce their operation rates in order to avoid a glut of supply. He said that the arbitrage window was not working.
