operating costs- Be cautious about the direction of downstream trafficThe Asian ethylene market prices rose in
the week ended February 3, due to a shortage of supply and low inventory
levels. A trader
stated that March's expected turnarounds and extended periods of low operating
costs in Asia meant that there was a greater pool of buyers searching for March
cargoes. This included several steam crackers using naphtha-fed naphtha in
Northeast Asia. A Northeast Asian trader
said that although ethylene prices are increasing, the price of naphtha remains
too high. Therefore, he was not surprised to get enquiries from crackers
looking to purchase some spot ethylene. China's
