Asian PP prices down due to weak demand / Borouge 3 PP units shut until end-May / Demand falls as finished products need new homes

In the week ending April 23, Asian polypropylene market activity was stable or slightly lower. Sources said that the lack of activity on the market was mainly due to a reduced appetite for buying amid the uncertainty in the market. The PP Raffia CFR Southeast Asia was down $5/mt to $935/mt as of April 23. Producers said that the price difference of $35/mt was well below the breakeven point of $150/mt. Sellers said that refineries with downstream PP units are still running at high rates, above 90%. Propylene is manufactured as a product of gasoline production. Sources claim that demand has been hit by the fact that most of the finished products were intended to be exported to America but have now found a new home. A company source revealed...
