China caused prices for Asian Butadiene to rise in the week ended Jan. 6. Due to the low operating
rates of Asian naphtha-fed steam crackers, selling indications were heard at
$900 to $950/mt CFR Northeast Asia. Further,
a Chinese start-up was delayed, further restricting spot availability. Buyers expressed concern about the dwindling margins of key
derivatives like ABS, SBR and BR. Buyers
don't really need to purchase cargo despite having lower inventories, as the
operating rates at SBR/BR facilities are low. A trader in China stated that the only buyers we see buying
are those who had low inventory levels before...
