ended July 15 due to low derivative demand and high supply. Late-week
inquiries rose as buyers expressed more interest in August cargoes at current
prices. This includes an integrated ethylene producer. The ethylene-naphtha
Spread remained below breakeven and it was considered more economically to buy
ethylene. According to market participants, the overall number of buyers
was much lower than in previous years. However, there was still more demand
than supply. Given the low spread of naphtha to-olefins, some of Asia's
naphtha-fed steam crackers were looking at lowering operating rates or entering
