European benzene markets
closed on a calm note on May 6. There were wider bid-offer ranges after
energy-spurred increases earlier in the week. On the day, the five-to-30-day forward delivery laycan was
stable at $1,245-1,265/mt CIF AR. As the benzene trade was illiquid, the market rose $15-18/mt over the week. This was
supported by an increase in ICE Brent crude oil and naphtha markets. As downstream styrene production plants are able to supply
more, demand is expected to increase later in the month. Stocks in the styrene industry remained tight, but restarts
at Trinseo Terneuzen (and BASF Ludwigshafen) were expected to increase supply
by May's end. The forward loading laycan
of styrene for five to 30 days was set...
