US May benzene rose 6
cents/gal to 404c/gal on April 26 in the face of higher crude futures. WTI crude futures increased by $3-4/b, to settle at $100-105/b on April 26, an increase of 3.21%. Benzene
rose 1.51%. The ratio of benzene to crude
was 1.67. This is down from 1.70 on April 26, but still below the 2021 average
annual ratio of 2. A source stated that
benzene was still undervalued relative to crude due to ongoing styrene turnarounds. Geopolitical concerns continue weighing on upstream energy,
creating volatility. Benzene has largely tracked crude futures. As reformers raise operating rates and refinery operating
