Price disparity between phenol buyers and sellers in SE Asia Availability of Chinese supplies exerts downward pressures on prices

On April 22, Asian acetone and phenol prices were stable, with CFR China acetone at $720/mt and CFR China phenol at $870/mt. Upstream benzene was also relatively stable. The upstream benzene FOB Korea mark was down $7.16/mt from the previous week to $731.67/mt. This puts the phenol breakeven price at $931.67/mt and the breakeven cost is $200/mt. Sources indicated that Chinese producers have been interested in selling phenol over the last week. One trader offered phenol to Northeast Asia for $850/mt CFR. A Southeast Asian downstream buyer reported that the current acetone offer was $720/mt FOM Unv1. In SE Asia, there was a large gap between buyers and suppliers.
