On July 6, the Asian polypropylene market
faced strong headwinds. East China's prompt domestic cargoes fell by Yuan 150-200/mt
over the week to close at Yuan 8,300-8,400/mt. Although prices had
recovered earlier in the week following a dip below the Yuan 8,400 mark late
last week, the Chinese PP futures fell substantially on the same day due to a
drop in crude oil prices. This fueled market bearishness. The ICE Brent September crude oil futures contract was
trading at $104.53-120.50/b at 4:30 pm Singapore time. This is down from $113.75-135.50/b. According to media reports, new coronavirus clusters in
China have led Chinese authorities to tighten restrictions on some Eastern
