Spot export caustic soda prices in the USA
were $85-90/dmt less from Dec. 20 to Jan. 3. This was due to lower pricing
indications as well as softer global pricing. The prices were set at $800-820/dmt FOB USG. According to
market sources, the US caustic soda demand/supply balance was stable. Producers
were looking to export cargoes in January or February. A source
claimed that European producers would export caustic soda cargoes to maintain
domestic European prices and to balance their inventories against the weaker
domestic demand. Based on two deals to Europe, which were
$1,050/dmtFOB and $1.060/dmtFOB, US export caustic soda prices hit an all-time
