Asia PP: China prices rise on re-export discussions / High inventories heard / Uncertain macroeconomics lead to demand destruction

The Asian polypropylene market was slightly higher in China in the week to July 2 amid discussions over re-export. Traders said most of the imported cargo in China was meant to be put in bonded warehouses and then re-exported. Buyers were holding high Inventories, sources said; however, Southeast Asia discussions remained thin and the general outlook remained bleak. Southeast Asian demand stayed sluggish with currencies depreciating against the US dollar, and unaffordable PP prices due to high feedstock costs. This comes despite tighter regional supply amid plant shutdowns and ongoing rationalization, sources said.
