spot market demand is weak despite sufficient contract supply PricesThe Asian PTA markets closed at $12/mt in
the week to September 23rd, despite weaker upstream prices and lower Chinese
domestic futures market. Due
to limited supply, premiums for spot cargoes from China remained high.
Operating rates for PTA were estimated at 70.5% for the second half of the
week. The operating rates for polyester
facilities were 84%. According to market
sources, PTA supply could rise in the coming week due to a major Chinese
producer likely to restart its plant on Sept. 26. According to reports, the plant had been shut down since
March mid-March. PTA could be affected by
