remain weakThe week ended Oct. 7, and trade was
restricted in Asian Ethylene markets because key players in China were absent
for the Golden Week holidays. The
buyers were still concerned about the negative downstream margins caused by
weak demand and the lack of an upstream naphtha market surge did not boost
sentiment. Indicators for buying were
$800-820/mt CFR Northeast Asia last week, which was lower than $850/mt the
previous week. Market sources indicated
that operating rates could be cut at naphtha-fed steam crackers in November if
spreads of ethylene and naphtha don't improve, as current production margins
are way below breakeven. The benchmark C+F
