Asian naphtha markets saw new supply.
June-loading naphtha was heard from Qatar. On the buy-side of the market, naphtha
fed steam crackers were heard refraining buying spot cargoes because of poor
downstream margins. Sources
said that Qatar's QPSPP offered 75,000 tonnes of naphtha for loading between
June 24 and 27, in a tender close on June 2. According
to a source, Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical will lower its run rates from
85%-90% in May down to 80% in June for its naphtha-fed steam crackeders. A company source said that an operating rate of 80% would
support the company's derivative plants and ensure that contractual volumes are
met. Asia's petrochemical producers had
reduced run rates since April because of poor downstream margins....
