According to market sources, the Asian
naphtha market experienced slow trading on Aug. 22, due to low demand for
downstream olefins. Due
to the low demand from China, downstream polyethylene and propylene prices
continued their decline. The Asian naphtha
market has been affected by low downstream demand from China. Market
participants don't expect a recovery before the end of the year due to China’s
zero-COVID-19 policies. The spread between
CFR Northeast Asia Ethylene and CFR Japan Naphtha Physical has been very
uneconomical. At the Asian close on Aug. 19, the spread was $130.75-150.50/mt. Although the spread increased $21.50-27.50/mt over the week,
it has been below the minimum breakeven level at $250-270/mt for integrated
