paper market flipped into backwardation



On June 27, the Asian naphtha market was
quiet with very little trading activity due to tepid demand. According to tender
results, Formosa concluded its term tender at $5-6/mt below the Mean Japanese
assessments. Kuwait Petrochemical Corporation concluded its sell tender at $25-30/mt
above the Mean Arab Gulf assessments. There
are signs of recovery as cracker-feed naphtha is in demand. Last week saw two
spot tenders from South Korea and two-term tenders from Unv1. Sources said that the sentiment overall was still bearish
due to unhealthy olefin margins. CFR
Northeast Asia ethylene and CFR Japan Naphtha physical spreads were at $161.50-180.10/mt
as of the Asian close on June 24, but it was lower than the $250-280/mt
breakeven...
