May 5th saw benzene prices rise following gains in the upstream energy
markets, but benzene trading activity was still low. On the day, the five- to 30-day forward delivery
laycanforbenzene was valued at $1,245-1,280/mt CIF AR. There was no fresh trading, but there were bids and offers
for May & June that rose due to increases in crude and naphtha price. The ICE Brent crude front month swap was valued at $108.54-120.54/b
1630 London Time, an increase of $2-3 over the previous day. A trader stated that benzene demand was still average as
downstream styrene production problems at TrinseoTerneuzen and BASF
Ludwigshafen continued. Sources said that
both plants would resume operations in May. The trader stated that the European market was expected to
rebound...
