In the week ending November 3, US vinyl
acetate monomer and acetic acid markets were quiet as participants waited for
direction due to an expected increase in supply in November. The US-based Celanese
announced Oct. 26 that it had lifted force majeures on multiple products in
Western Hemisphere. However, no market impact was observed. Sources claimed that spot prices were stable and activity
levels are low. The company stated that
these products include vinyl acetate monomer and acetic acid. "The market has been slow with very few transactions. One source stated that it was still "oversupplied"
and that demand is still limited. This was
partly due to the incompetitiveness US Gulf Coast material when compared to
