In the week ending Dec. 2, European
monoethylene glycol demand was subdued from the larger segment of polyethylene
terephthalate, which pushed up prices. The delayed arrival of import cargoes in November also
affected MEG prices. Some parts of Europe
saw pockets of demand. Sellers were
willing to pay higher spot prices when there was a healthy demand in the
anti-freeze market. It (demand) certainly
makes a difference in which industry is being bought. A trader stated that PET is weaker than antifreeze and this
is why the MEG range is higher. PET
accounts for about 65% of European demand compared to antifreeze's 30%. According to a seller in the PET market, MEG demand is
almost non-existent. There's not much
happening and there are price wars for few...
