Asia PP: Stable amid thin trade / Saudi Polymers plans Jubail expansion in 2029 / Freight increases

Asian polypropylene markets were stable in the week to June 4. Southeast Asia remained sluggish due to a seasonal lull prior to Hari Raya Haji in Malaysia and Indonesia. Vietnam prices increased due to a rise in offers due to higher freight costs, Chinese traders said. There was now no price difference between Southeast Asia and Vietnam prices, where, traditionally, Vietnam prices were slightly cheaper due to imported oversupply. Customers in Indonesia were heard to prefer local material for supply promptness and price competitiveness as the Rupiah had been weak against the US dollar, hence dampening buying appetite in Southeast Asia.
