Poor production margins concern buyers | Ethylene naphtha spread under $100-120/m

- Poor production margins concern buyers- Ethylene naphtha spread under
$100-120/mt

The demand for Asian ethylene continued to
be weak, with many buyers staying on the sidelines due to poor derivative
margins. Many participants said that the
near-term outlook was grim due to a slowdown in global consumption. This had
adversely affected both intra-Asia and export opportunities to countries such
as the US or Europe. According to market sources, ethylene demand is
likely to remain low in the short term. The
benchmark C+F Japan Naphtha marker was down $5.25-6.50/mt to $770.25-790.25/mt
on July 20. The spread for ethylene-naphtha was $89.75-94.50/mt.
This is lower than the average spread of $300-$350/mt.
