Asian Polybutylene Tephthalate: Falling $12/mt due to lower domestic prices and higher freight rates / Higher China-India freight rate hinders exports / East China domestic prices continue to drop

On March 26, the price of polybutylene Terephthalate FOB China dropped by $12/mt, or $998/mt. This is below the $1,000/mt offer. This assessment took partial account of lower East China domestic prices. The market participants reported a persistently low demand, as well as a substantial increase in shipping costs, especially on the China-India routes, which led to hesitation among Indian buyers. One Chinese producer who considers India as a major market for export noted that the freight rate from Dalian to NhavaSheva, which transports about 26 mt PBT in packaging of 25 kg per 40-foot container load (FCL), had increased by $200.
