As price negotiations for
both acetone and Asian phenol continued to head south, it appeared that
weakness had seeped into the Asian market. Although
there was little discussion about CFR China basis phenol supply in the week to
April 26, one local phenol producer mentioned selling indications from China at
$1,480-1,500/mt. This is higher than in previous weeks. Ex-tank phenol discussions in East China rose by Yuan 100-200/mt
and Yuan 10,100-10,500/mt respectively but were $22-25/mt less at $1,290-1,310/mt
due to a weaker dollar against the yuan. Two
sources also reported that acetone was being discussed in East China on an
ex-tank basis at Yuan 5,400-5,600/mt. Yuan
5,500-5,800/mt and an increase of Yuan 25-35/mt would make it approximately $700-730/mt
