This week, Asian phenol and Asian
acetone markets were bullish due to high feedstock costs and returning demand
from India and China. According to market sources, some major
Indian phenol/acetone producers had reduced their run rates by around 60%-70%
because of a shortage of feedstock. According
to a market source in India, inventory is decreasing, and local production
operating rates are very low. A source
close to Petro Rabigh said that Saudi Arabia's Petro Rabigh had restarted its
phenol/acetone plant from February 12-13, following a brief outage. Due to technical issues at the reactor, the plant was forced
to close on February 11. Mitsui Chemical,
Japan, has shipped the first Asia-based bio-based phenol, it stated in a
