Asian monoethylene glycol prices rose sharply over the week to July 31, driven by tightening supply expectations as renewed disruption to traffic through the Strait of Hormuz reduced ethylene glycol shipments and prompted a downward revision of subsequent import volumes to ports. The supply squeeze strengthened expectations of tighter spot market liquidity, underpinning prices through most of the week despite a softer close on July 31. MEG CFR China at $650/metric ton July 31, up $35/mt week over week, while the domestic China assessment stood at 5,253 yuan/mt ex-tank, up 230 yuan/mt over the same period.
