The second consecutive week of increases in
demand sentiment saw Asian polypropylene prices rise. Yuan 150-200/mt was more
expensive in East China than the previous week, closing at Yuan 8,075-9,000/mt. The market sentiment improved over the week, amid hopes of
stronger futures markets and a rebound in seasonal demand. The average operation rate in China increased by 5% to 83%,
according to market sources. However, some market sources pointed out that this
increase was modest when compared with the previous month. It seems that there is still a lot of maintenance for the PP
plant. One trader based in China said that
September's supply will increase by only 50,000 to 60,000mt over August.
