Asian PTA prices rebound slightly as PET shows improvements / A price drop sparks interest in buying / The producers aim to maintain discipline

PTA prices rose marginally during the week ending March 14, as PET demand in China improved. PTA FOB China was $637/mt in the week ending March 14. This is an increase of $8/mt. PX and PTA spot prices remain firm despite slightly lower crude oil prices for the day. The same trader stated that PTA producers may consider delaying their planned turnarounds until April and May due to the sudden surge of optimism. The trader said that even if the price of PX was low, PTA plants would still buy. A PTA producer in Asia stated that while PET demand has improved, there have been few changes on the polyester front.
