Upstream benzene prices fell $40/mt DOD at $733.33/mt FOB Korea / China's Sinopec Zhenhai delays the start-up of its new phenol and acetone plant until July 10

The Asian phenol price was stable from week to week with CFR China's acetone marker at $655/mt and CFR China's phenol marker at $825/mt. The price of crude oil and naphtha both fell after the announcement on June 24, 2016. Market sources indicate that the impact of the ceasefire on phenol and acetone is delayed. The benzene FOB Korea mark is down $25/mt from the previous week and $40/mt per day, at $733.33/mt on June 24. This puts phenol breakeven price at $933/mt. Breakeven cost for acetone is $200/mt. Propylene FOB Korea also rose $40/mt over the past week to $750/mt on June 24, putting acetone at $562.50/mt. According to market sources, producers have tried to increase prices for acetone and phenol, but downstream buyers will not accept any price...
