Asian PET prices slump as market confidence on tariffs erodes / Thin Spot Trading as Buyers Stay Cautious / Brazil launches antidumping investigation on Vietnam and Malaysia

Prices of polyethylene terephthalate in Asia fell to multi-year lows on the 9th April as trade tensions continued to weigh on the market. In the week leading up to April 9, Asia's buying activity weakened after US President Donald Trump announced reciprocal duties. Market sources reported that while bottle-grade PET wasn't included in the US tariff list for this round, lower crude and feedstock prices upstream added to downward pressure on price. Data showed that upstream, PTA CFR China dropped $100/mt from the previous week to $545/mt on April 9 while MEG CFR China decreased $61/mt, to $469/mt, over the same time period.
